The Boy Scouts Skilled Trade Center is the realization of the local Boy Scouts Dan Beard Council’s vision to introduce young people to a career in the trades. While attending programs in this facility, scouts will earn merit badges in a variety of skilled trades, learning basic skills such as changing oil or fixing a leaky faucet, while being introduced to the trades. Hub+Weber worked within a tight budget to develop a design that utilizes an economical building type (pre-engineered metal building) while maintaining distinct design elements to create an identity for the project. A dramatic roof line and deep overhangs create gathering spaces both inside and outside of the building. Exterior materials are inspired by the natural setting of Camp Friedlander and the existing buildings on campus.
