NCC Athletics field

The Newport Central Catholic Athletic Complex is the final and most ambitious project to be identified and implemented in their current Master Plan, developed in conjunction H+W.

The campus sits on a hilltop with views of the Ohio River and Cincinnati skyline. While the view is a major feature of the site, the site topography has prevented the school from hosting sporting events on-site. This project will expand a modest size flat area halfway up the hill into a full size football and soccer field with a six-lane track. The project also features a locker building with coaches’ offices and storage facilities with spectator bleachers on top. The entrance to the complex will be through a plaza at grade, on top of the locker building, with the field 10’ below.

H+W and the design team went through many iterations before arriving at the current design, which features a balanced site and building features embedded in the hillside. This project also includes preliminary designs for a future field house, incorporating the grading work now to prepare for this phase.

This project will allow NCC to welcome their students and community for large scale sporting events on campus, rather than playing “home” games at various other local high schools. The complex has capacity for 1,500 fans, all with uninterrupted views across the Ohio River valley to the Cincinnati skyline.
